girl scout cookies, auctions and smiles…

feb27cookiesinjar

every year at this time i get bombarded with auction requests for my art.

i love it. i will donate if i can. and i try to a lot. especially if it benefits any school or activity our own kids have been in.

but this year so much has been going on. daughter to college, son in sports without a drivers license until oct. 31, sore arm, getting ready to put our home on the market, need i say more? i’m not complaining. just the truth.

so, this year i decided that i would donate a copy of my cookbook… and fresh out of the oven cookies.

it might not bring in the kind of money that art does, but it is still a donation at least.

and, who doesn’t love cookies. it’s one item your husband and kids will say YES to bidding on.

feb27auctionitems2

fresh baked cookies, a box of thin mints, one of my cookbooks and a cute little piece of art with a saying by Julia childs (not pictured). who wouldn’t want to bid on that? i would.

the cute little cookie jar is from pier 1 imports. $10. so awesome.

i used a paint pen from artco to write on the chalkboard area this saying…

SO MANY OF MY SMILES BEGIN WITH YOU… THAT, AND COOKIES TOO!

love it.

and if you are interested in my little ol cookbook called “appetizers & desserts. who needs dinner… a girlfriends guide to entertaining”. email me at tfisherart@comcast.net.  they are $15 (addl $4 for shipping).

or here’s the recipe…

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR COOKIE

2 1/4 c. flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

3/4 c. packed light brown sugar

1 small pkg vanilla instant pudding (3.4 oz)

1 c. butter, softened

1 tsp. vanilla

2 large eggs

1 sleeve (approx. 16 cookies) of GS Thin Mint cookies, crushed into small pieces

Preheat oven to 375. mix butter until fluffy. add brown sugar. mix. add dry pudding. mix. add vanilla. mix. add eggs, one at a time. mix. combine flour, soda and salt and then add to butter mixture. fold in cookies. refrigerate for 30 minutes. scoop into rough balls with ice cream scoop. place on ungreased baking sheets with about 1″ between cookies.  bake 9-11 minutes or until tops are light golden brown. go ahead test one. then let the rest cool. if putting into a cookie jar, let cool for a few hours as they are very moist and will stick together.

happy saturday.

donut kill my vibe…

feb18happy donut face

took the week off.

mason had the week off of school. had all of these plans. didn’t do one of them.

maybe a week “off” should be just that… a week off.

ok.

i’m in.

feb18donutholes

i think i will get out some of my simply baked containers (www.simplybaked.com) and my old camera (fyi… wish list for upcoming birthday is a new white cool fun camera that takes photos and can upload immediately) and have some fun.

list: donut holes, melting chocolates, sprinkles, maple glaze, bacon, boozy cherries… get it all!

and maybe a bottle of champagne to toast with.

for tomorrow i will get back to creating!

happy friday.

it’s a homemade cookie kind of day…

feb16juliachildsquote

i’m feeling sentimental today.

the house is so quiet.

brookie flew out yesterday.  back to the college grind in sunny california.  we were so blessed to have her home for the weekend. i love when pilots give our family special gifts (buddy passes).  best gift in the world right now is to have my family together.  so sappy.  yes.  but i love it.

mason has this entire week off from school.  something called mid winter break… don’t really get it… just had thanksgiving, then Christmas, then presidents day, then comes spring break.  really?  but it’s okay. i like my time with my boy.  he’s growing up.  likes hanging out with his buddies more than being home lately.  got his learners permit.  wants to drive whenever he sees a car sitting in our driveway.  but i do know this… the way to his heart is…

cookies.

feb16cookieandmilk

and milk.

yum.

i’ve been wanting to try a recipe i got on line awhile ago. i guess it was inspired by www.browneyedbaker.com (who i adore) and she was inspired by levain bakery (who i saw guy fieri challenge for best chocolate chip cookie on the food network years ago).  so, today was the perfect day.  i made them.  and yes, they are “that good”.  i know the ones i saw on the food network were huge and they used giant walnut pieces, but i wanted to make enough for a few days worth.  so, i used a medium ice cream scoop. on another  note… i will type the recipe as i personally made them.  because that’s what i do.  everyone has their own version i’m sure.

CHOCOLATE CHIP WALNUT COOKIES

3 1/4 c. all purpose flour

1 Tblsp. cornstarch

1 teasp. baking powder

1/4 tsp. salt

1 c. (2 sticks) unsalted butter (I only had one cube of unsalted so I used 1 cube unsalted and 1 salted), room temp.

1/2 c. sugar

3/4 c. packed light brown sugar

2 eggs

1/4 tsp. vanilla

2 c. semi sweet chocolate chips (I used guittard brand. fancy. rich. yummy)

1 c. walnuts, toasted and roughly chopped (I used a 1 3/4 c. package of chopped walnuts then toasted them)

preheat oven to 375.   in a large bowl, mix butter and sugar until fluffy.  add brown sugar.  mix.  then add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.  in another bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder and salt.  then add to creamed butter mixture.  in a third bowl (yes, you will have to wash 3 bowls) combine chocolate chips, toasted walnuts and 1 tsp. of flour.  add to big mixture.  refrigerate for at least 20 minutes.  use ice cream scoop so all are similar in size.  scoop dough then fold top of ball to sides and pinch under bottom of dough.  sounds odd but it will make the tops look rustic.  trust me.  my friend kristin taught me this trick years ago with her famous chocolate chip cookies.  and she’s my favorite baking friend.  she should own a bakery!!   bake at 375 for 15 minuts or until lightly golden on top.  go ahead and eat a hot one.  with a cold glass of milk.

enjoy!

feb16cookie

i promise to make you some of these next time you are home brooke (if you are reading this).

i miss you.  now i’m going to go have a cookie.

happy tuesday.

seven reasons i loved football season…

feb8gamedaysocks

gem day socks. love them. want them. need them. it’s not too late. right?

thanks @robkardashian for making these happen. and thanks @arthurgeorge87 for getting them out there.

feb8dietcoke

diet coke. my vice. in a big, tall glass filled with ice. or better yet, with a splash of crown royal…  and even better if i could find these cute bottles.

feb8lobsterrolls

lobster rolls. on brioche rolls. mini style. you can eat 4 or 5 and say it was one regular. yes, you can.

thanks for photo @katiegrossbard from instagram. love your photos and way of thinking.

feb8nordstromjogginoutfit

comfy outfits. for games on tv and in the stands. it’s ok to dress this way for football. and if you are just watching your team on tv then it doesn’t matter if you are wearing team colors. these pants look like they have every teams color in them anyway . perfect..

gotta go look on www.nordstrom.com or www.adidas.com – cute spring stuff.

feb8franksbloodymary

vodka is ok to drink in the morning…  if added to a bloody mary.  if you don’t want to buy all of the ingredients, get to sam’s tavern in seattle and have them make you one… or two. with sliders on top!  i discovered these when my friends took me for my 50th. they researched where to have the “best bloody mary in seattle”. took us straight to sams. they were right.

feb8footballartbyme

football art. by me. great quote. look for art for sale this summer. on this site.

feb8namastayinbed

then there is instagram. people ask why i’m posting so much lately. well, for a few years i posted about 7 photos. and it dawned on me that i could keep my photos, wants, needs, etc in one place and make myself a book each year. so, that’s why.

and anything beachy catches my eye. thanks @frankieboutique for selling this top. i am coming in this week to buy it. hope it’s still there. in my size. because the one sunny day we had this week makes me crave the beach.

now… on to baseball season (my favorite).

happy monday.

banana. peanut butter. m&m’s in school colors. snack time…

feb2bananasnackbig

my mom always made after school snacks.  did yours?

the problem here is that mason likes BIG snacks.  we are talking full on dinners.  “can we please stop off at taco time?”.  “i’m so hungry i can’t make it home!”. omG… we only live 10 minutes from home.  and he wants his snack and dinner to NOT be the same thing.  on the same day.

really???

this is exhausting.  what ever happened to the cute little fruit roll up?  or baby chocolate milk?  even a bowl of cereal was fine last year.  but this year he has grown over 11 inches.  even the physical changes these past few months make me look twice at times.  where did my baby boy go?   i guess he deserved to eat like a grown up now.

august9bfeb2mason

i promise i’d make you better snacks if you’d just get that hair cut!  been growing it for months.  seems like years.  growing.  growing.  growing.  so is he.  into a man. enough about the hair. tbh… we all like it.  it’s him.

ok, i get it.  independence.  high school  girls.  coolness.  you be you!

i love that kid of ours.

feb2bananasnack1feb2bananasnack2feb2bananasnack3

so, today i was tired of making meals for everyone (not like i do it a lot…haha).

and we had these great bananas on the counter.  the kind that are a little green still.  my fav kind.  and the peanut butter and baggies were still on the counter from making lunch this morning (typical).  and the m&m’s and mini chocolate chips were left over from cookies i made this past weekend (which mason and friends ate ALL of them in 2 days).

i grabbed a baggie.  put some peanut butter in it.  snipped the tip off the end.  swirled the peanut butter onto the banana slices.  topped with school colors.  so awesome.  even i was proud of my accomplishment.  and guess what?  he liked it.  not one complaint that it wasn’t a “meal”.

i will never tire of making him after school snacks because i know how fast time goes.  brooke lives in CA now and i can no longer do that for her.  here’s to 3 1/2 more years of snack making.

happy tuesday.

i am an official instagram junkie…

my daughter @fisher_brooke told me i’d like instagram.  i thought it was too much work to figure out something new.

boy was i wrong.

now i’m ON. feel free to follow me @hellotracy if you are a lover of art, food and homes that you swear you could pull off. in your dreams. lots of sarcasm. big surprise. a dreamer of a new wardrobe, jewelry and hair you’ll never pull off or afford. you know, the usual “girl” stuff.

please excuse me as i probably post at the wrong times.  probably post too many or too little photos.  probably don’t know you are following me because i just figured that out yesterday. so many “probably’s”. oh well. too bad.

i love it when i get a sign i’ve been waiting for. thanks God, and Lisa Rinna…

art lisa rinna art instagram

so, i wake up this morning (ok, i was actually laying back down after taking my kid to school… you caught me… exhausted… didn’t sleep last night… don’t know why… as my aunt says “your committee in your head must be keeping you awake”… yep, too much thinking, not enough sleeping), and my cousin, kim ohlson, texted me this photo.

seriously?

a piece of art i painted (with rascal flats lyrics on it) was on Lisa Rinna’s instagram page!

this is similar to the painting (as each one is painted individually) i gave to our daughter when she went off to CA this year to chase her dreams.  and she is chasing them i tell you.  so proud of that girl of ours.

but…

how cool is this?

i love love love Lisa Rinna.

i’ve loved her since reading about her shop (never got to see it, but dreamed about the clothes in it for a long time). i’ve watched her on Days Of Our Lives forever.  and she is my favorite wife on RHOBH.  yes, i am a reality junkie.  i know who is real… and this girl has got it going on!!!

anyway, it’s weird how things happens.  i was just talking about quitting facebook the other day.  and getting back into instagram.  not that i was ever really into instagram.  it’s apparent from looking at it.  i think i have about 10 photos on there from the past 5 years…haha..  it started with getting an account to stalk my kids in middle school so i knew they were being appropriate on social media.  but now i love that it is like one big photo album of your life.  and that is soooo up my alley.  i am fresh from returning from CA as i just helped brookie move into a new place.  i felt renewed.  i was ready to make changes.  i was ready to paint.  i kept saying all week, “i’ll update it.  i’ll do it tomorrow.  i really will….”.  then life gets in the way.  old habits form.

well, not now!

this was my sign.  this morning.  changes are happening.  thanks, lisa (even though you have no idea who i am and how much of an influence this one post of yours made in my life).  funny how people we have never met send us in a direction we didn’t realize we were going to take so soon.

so, i’m back.

on instagram. and painting. and dreaming my dreams.

just for fun… thought you might like to see a few pieces i have hanging around my own home…

photo (41)

the original Fisher Family Vintage.

what started it all.  my style has changed a little.  the bottles aren’t so jug-like. and more information fits on the story.

email me if you are interested in one.  i have a few openings left for 2016.

tfisherart@comcast.net

photo (114)

i love painting these little framed pieces.  it reminds me that when our kids are home (and husband too), i will always be able to say, “party of 4, please”.  I like that.

art lisa rinna doorway

this is what you see when you leave our home.  next to the front door.  next to the coat rack that is piled with baseball caps, scarves and rain coats.  and the beautiful ceramic cross my mom bought me when i turned 40.  she took me to laguna beach, my birth place, and drove me around to my old house, the hospital where i was born, and the bar that my dad went to after she delivered me… and he bought everyone a drink.  um, these days, there’s no way the husband gets to leave the bedside to go for drinks after the baby is born…haha.  after the fun trip down memory lane, she took me to san juan capistrano.  i saw this cross in the window of a store.  it has a leather cord.  i fell in love.  she bought it for me.  and it has been hanging next to that door ever since. almost 12 years.

art lisa rinna apple

one day i was watching oprah.  and gwyneth paltrow came on her show.  she had just had a baby.  and had named her apple.  and she told the story why.  i loved it.  and i painted this.  yes, many years ago.  one day i hope to give it to her.  it’s been in our bar room, hanging on the wall since that day.  anyone know gwyneth?  if so, give her my email address.

art lisa rinna family2

i love my family. and they love us too. most of the time.  haha.  i’ve painted a few of these for people that have the same feeling.  love it.  it sits on my bookshelf, next to a photo i just bought in venice beach.  i love buying art from locals when i travel.  the artist/photographer was one of the vendors on the side of the skate path.  and i loved this piece.  and if you look closely, you will see a butterfly.  when my dad passed away last year i was told to look for white butterflies passing by.  it would mean my dad was near.  funny thing is i see them all of the time.  greg’s mom sent me a beautiful basket of all white flowers and this sparkly gold butterfly was pinned on top.  she then passed away suddenly.  a shock to our family a few months back.  and that butterfly has been on our book shelf every day since.  it might not be white, but it’s sparkly and happy… and i love it.

art lisa rinna He loves me

this is a little piece i made a long long long time ago from pages from one of my kids story books.  i cut them out and glued them on.  a reminder that He loves us all.

art lisa rinna just another day at the beach2

this piece hangs way up high in my office/studio. about 10 years ago this guy commissioned me to make a very large painting for his girlfriend.  i was so excited.  because he offered me a lot of money compared to what i was making those days.  he gave me his number.  i painted the piece. and he never answered his phone. ever. talk about a sad moment. i always assume people are good on their word.  my parents taught us that was important.  keep you word.  oh well.  lesson learned.  i covered the flower on her swim cap with sequins and put more blonde in her hair and called her “brooke”.  and now it is mine.  how lucky am i?

art lisa rinna kitchen art

i have a red wall in our kitchen.  I’ve repainted all of our walls a cool taupe color.  but for some reason this one wall did not get painted over at the time.  i must have liked red.  now i can’t remember the paint color on the other walls.  i guess this one will just remain red.  i cover it up a lot with art and photos. this is what hangs there now.

art lisa rinna now serving beer

this piece hangs in our bar room (which is technically our living room but we never used it so we turned it into a bar room with tv, games, bar and the usual mess… yep, right as you walk into the door).  i made a few of these for a show years ago and pulled this one aside.  it was mine.  i knew it as i was painting it.

art lisa rinna wealthy

don’t get me wrong.  i love money. it can buy fun vacations to see my daughter… and lots of converse sneakers… and the little white convertible bug i dream about that my husband says “one day, dear”.

i did a painting for someone as a thank you from garth brooks.  it was a very personal piece with lots of information on the recipients life and all of his accomplishments.  it was really really cool. i don’t talk about my celebrity work much because they don’t like me posting the actual art.  it’s always personal.  word art.  but i loved the story because i worked with one of his guys to get it finished in time. then shipped it to an airport that garth would be arriving at for a layover so he could sign it. then it went to the place it was meant to be.  when i saw this quote i loved it.  when i saw who said it, i loved it more.

art lisa rinna wondeful

notice anything wrong with this piece?  no, it’s not the broken piece of glass i had to take out after it fell off the wall.  yep, “wonderful” is misspelled.  so it hangs in our home.  on the wall.  has for years.  it makes me laugh every time i look at it.  reminds me we aren’t perfect.  and the funny party is that a few people have offered to buy it from me.  no.  it’s mine.  my original piece of flubbed up art.

art lisa rinna woo hoo bathroom

and this one hangs over our tub.  the tub used by me… oh, and my son with epsom salts after a long baseball weekend… and our cat.  yes, our cat loves to take baths.  hilarious.  funny cat.  i love the saying on this.  i read it every morning when i get ready.  chocolate and martinis?  sure, why not.  i’ve made quite a few of these for the girls in our area (40th, 50th, even 60th bdays).  just adjust the hair color, drink and dessert choice.  fun.

art lisa rinna brookes comment 2

as i end this post, i have to put this photo up from my computer.  it’s a little blurry.  just snapped it from my cel phone.  look…. brooke (fisher_brooke) left lisa rinna a message.  my heart is melting.  thanks brookie.  and lisa, I’m sorry to hear about your dad.  maybe one day i can put him into a story for you on canvas.

happy thursday.
